Cleaning a chastity cage is three decisions, not one: how often to rinse while it stays
on, how often to take it off, and what the material will tolerate. Get the third wrong and the device
fails long before its time — solvents cloud polycarbonate, heat softens ABS, and abrasive pads take
the polish off steel that keeps it hygienic.
How often, by material
| Material | Rinse while worn | Remove and clean | Full dry time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless steel (316L) | daily, in the shower | every 2–3 days | 10–15 minutes |
| Polycarbonate | daily | every 1–2 days | 20–30 minutes — seams hold water |
| 3D-printed resin | daily | every 1–2 days | 30 minutes — layer lines trap moisture |
| Silicone | daily | every day | 5–10 minutes |
| ABS plastic | daily | every 1–2 days | 15–20 minutes |
The interval is a hygiene minimum, not a schedule to stretch. If odour appears within 24 hours of a
clean, the surface has become porous and cleaning will not fix it.
The five-minute routine
- Rinse the whole device under warm — not hot — running water. Hot water is what
softens ABS and stresses plated finishes. - Wash with a mild, fragrance-free soap. Two drops is enough; dish soap strips
skin oils and is the usual cause of irritation attributed to the device. - Brush the inside of the cage and the ring channel with a soft toothbrush.
This is the step people skip, and it is the one that matters — residue collects where skin touches
metal. - Rinse again until the water runs clear. Soap residue under a ring irritates
more than sweat does. - Dry completely before refitting — including the inside of the cage tube and
around the pin. A damp device worn immediately is a fungal problem waiting for a warm week.
What damages each material
| Material | Avoid | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Steel | chlorine bleach, abrasive pads, silver polish | bleach pits 316L; abrasives remove the polish bacteria cannot cling to |
| Polycarbonate | water above 80 °C, alcohol, acetone | solvents cloud and craze the surface, which then traps residue |
| Resin | alcohol soaks, heat, hard brushing | layer lines open up and never close again |
| Silicone | oil-based lubes on some grades, harsh soap | the material absorbs oil and holds odour |
| ABS | hot water, dishwasher, sunlight | softens and deforms; UV makes it brittle |
Cleaning while it stays on
For multi-day wear, the daily rinse happens without removal: warm water through the cage, a drop
of mild soap worked in with a finger, rinse, then dry with a hairdryer on the cool setting — 30
seconds is enough and it is the only reliable way to dry a cage you are still wearing. Check the skin
under the ring at the same time; that thirty seconds is where most problems are caught early.
Stop and let it heal if the skin under the ring is broken, weeping or painful. Treat it like any other skin injury: no device until it has closed, then refit and check the ring size before wearing again.
Odour, discolouration and when to replace
- Odour within 24 hours of a proper clean → porous surface → replace.
- White or green film that returns after cleaning → bacterial growth in
micro-scratches → replace. - Cracks, crazing or flaking at a seam → replace; a repair fails at the same
place, usually while worn. - Rust spots on “stainless” → it is not 316L, or the plating has breached.
